چکیده
Seas and oceans offer great potential as a widely available source of clean renewable energy near high consumption centers. This is valuable option in the transition matrix decarbonization. Wave an oscillating water column (OWC) device stand out types ocean with most potential. An onshore OWC requires locations rocky outcrops steeper slopes needs to be physically installed has lower dissipation due friction seabed. However, Brazil approximately 7490 km coastlines, various shoreline geometries geomorphologies, some which are very suitable for implementation. Some authors have estimated that Brazilian coast total 114 GW, distributed between wave tidal energy, possibility contributing global decarbonization efforts. study aimed identify quantify implementing farms equipped OWC. For this, prospect was carried using georeferencing software QGIS, resulting georeferenced map dataset 319 locations, determining power capacity exploitation 9.84 GW 83,689 GWh/year ten seventeen coastal states. corresponds twice state Rio de Janeiro, population 17.5 million people. Control strategies for oscillating water column wave energy converters
The oscillating water column wave energy converter (OWCWEC) is an established device which produces electricity by causing an ocean wave to drive air through a turbine. A system to control the operation can improve the device’s performance. In varying sea conditions, different objectives for control may be appropriate. For example, in some seas the controller might shut off the plant because th...

Wave energy composes a direct and easy way of harnessing power from the Ocean. Among the different techniques used, OWC devices stand as one of the most promising ones. NEREIDA MOWC demonstration project is a breakwater wave plant located in the Basque location of Mutriku, using Wells turbines and Doubly Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs). Since one of the main objectives when dealing with renewa...
متن کاملOn the tuning of a wave-energy driven oscillating-water-column seawater pump to polychromatic waves
Performance of wave-energy devices of the oscillating water column (OWC) type is greatly enhanced when a resonant condition with the forcing waves is maintained. The natural frequency of such systems can in general be tuned to resonate with a given wave forcing frequency. In this paper we address the tuning of an OWC seawater pump to polychromatic waves. We report results of wave tank experimen...
متن کاملPeak-power control of a grid-integrated oscillating water column wave energy converter
A critical characteristic of most WECs (wave energy converters) is the large peak-to-average power ratio. This poses many challenges to the design of high-efficient PTO (power take-off) systems and, even more importantly, to integrate this form of renewable energy into power grids. The OWC (oscillating water column) WECs are devices whose PTO uses an air turbine as the primary energy converter....
متن کاملDynamic Model of Dielectric Elastomer Diaphragm Generators for Oscillating Water Column Wave Energy Converters
Dielectric Elastomers (DEs) are incompressible rubber-like solids whose electrical and structural responses are highly nonlinear and strongly coupled. Thanks to their coupled electromechanical response, intrinsic lightness, easy-manufacturability and low-cost, DEs are perfectly suited for the development of novel solid-state polymeric energy conversion units with capacitive nature and high-volt...
